Daffodils And Miniature Roses (Work In Progress)

The above reference photo of mine was taken some time ago, when daffodils were plentiful at the florists here in Hawaii.   It was way over a year ago when I bought them; as you know spring bulbs will not grow in this tropical climate.  Below is a close up I took as more reference for my oil painting of spring flowers.

I have no idea why I used that gold material other than it was new and I liked it, but in the oil work in progress below I opted for using a white foreground.

Work In Progress
12" x 9" oil on panel

It is almost embarrassing to post this painting above, because it is so very rough and a little messy.   It has a long way to go yet and I want to use more exciting color and contrast in the background.  To tell the truth, I came close to what I wanted while painting today, but then wiped it off and started again.....mistake!  Sometimes it is best to leave well enough alone.   Funny how sometimes the painting paints itself with ease and other times we struggle a bit to get it right.

Announcing New Wood Duck And Garden Prints

"Oh So Blue" - Wood Duck
12" x 16" acrylic on panel
$1500

This original acrylic painting is still available for purchase.  It had been posted on this blog previously, but now I am announcing that prints are available of this image at Fine Art America.  For those not familiar with FAA, they do an excellent job of prints on demand : your preferred size, whether a paper print or on stretched canvas, as well as note cards.

Below are two more paintings now available as prints for the first time.

"Descanso Gardens Flower Cart"
8" x 10" oil on panel
$500

"Rodeo Wagon"
8" x 10" oil on panel
$500

The prices on the above three works are for the original paintings.   The prints available at Fine Art America are priced considerably less than that.   Check out my site there !

Descanso Gardens Flower Cart

"Descanso Gardens Flower Cart"
8 x 10 Oil on panel
$500

This is fresh on the easel today and what a joy to bring it to completion.  I just felt like completing a smaller painting today instead of working on one of my larger works in progress.   I am sure I will be painting more garden pictures soon, rather than and including ones of Descanso Gardens which is in the suburbs of Los Angeles, California.  Those are primroses in the flower cart and spring flowers, including tulips, around the cart.

Beauty And Age - Descanso Gardens

"Beauty And Age" - Descanso Gardens
16" x 20" oil on canvas

The ancient Wisteria vine almost takes center stage in this completed oil painting of a scene at Descanso Gardens, which is about a twenty minute drive from Los Angeles, California.   I spent many hours at these beautiful gardens.

Getting There !

Work In Progress
Descanso Gardens Third Stage
16" x 20" oil on canvas

I was in oil  painter's heaven today working on this painting I posted previously (go here) .  This photograph does not pick up all the color properly, but hopefully next time I show this painting it will be finished and I can photograph it outside.   It was late at night when I took this photo.   I still have a lot of work to do on this piece.

Thank you for stopping by and visiting !

Beauty And Age - Descanso Gardens Second Stage

Work In Progress - Second Stage
"Beauty And Age" Descanso Gardens
16" x 20"

I worked on this again in the wee hours this morning, using acrylic paints.   It is time to begin going over it and finishing it in oils.   To view the reference photograph and the first stage of this painting go here   .  I used Open Golden Acrylics while working on this, so I may give it more time to dry before beginning in oils and start work on another miniature in the meantime.

Beauty And Age - Descanso Gardens (work in progress)

Work in progress
"Beauty And Age"
16" x 20" on canvas

I laid this out very quickly a few minutes ago in acrylics.  My intention is to finish it in oils.   This is a scene at Descanso Gardens a few years ago. These gardens are in a suburb of Los Angeles, California.  I have always meant to paint it, and it feels good to finally begin work on it and also to do a larger canvas for a change.   I can see I need to work on the angle of the bench; like I said, this is a very rough quick lay-in of color and shapes.   Below is my reference photograph.

I believe that twisting vine is a wisteria plant not yet in bloom.   Please correct me if I am wrong.

Now back to the easel !
