"Breaking Through Artist's Block" (Video) - and Tomato Sandwich Painting

Tomato Sandwich Half
8" x 8" oil on canvas
$375

I have posted the above painting to this blog before, but now I would like to announce that it is available as a print in various sizes and formats on Fine Art America.    For today's post I had originally intended to show a video about fine artist David Cheifetz  because his still life paintings are so dramatic and rich in color.   He also paints other subject matter, but I was particularly drawn to his excellent still life work.   To make a long story short, I could not find a video on this artist but ran across the video shown below about "Breaking through artist's block"  that I found rather informative.   It explains how sometimes the eye (vision) of the artist improves beyond the artist's skill level which in turn makes the artist depressed thinking his work is terrible.   Then he may go days or weeks without painting.   This video lasts a little over 17 minutes and has no images other than a "graph" of sorts.

I have not had artist block in a long time; I just paint slower now.   I tend to paint in layers, necessitating drying between layers before I can begin to paint again on the same canvas.  I have been painting this morning and I am almost finished with a landscape of a scene near Taos, New Mexico.   I may finish it tonight or tomorrow so please check back with me soon.

"Forget Me Not" Oil Still Life Painting And Prints

Forget Me Not
12" x 16" oil on canvas
$1595.00

I am happy to announce that this still life oil painting is now available as prints at Fine Art America.   Please go to this link for information on available sizes and types of prints.

(Artist's Note:  I no longer am affiliated with Fine Art America by my choice.  I am considering a new source for prints in the future.)

This painting is full of symbolic meaning.  The blue flowers on the cup and saucer are forget-me-not flower blossoms, to remind us to never forget God and Jesus and to put them FIRST in our lives.  The yellow peace rose symbolizes the peace that comes from the Lord, when your soul is in harmony with His will and you are truly born again.  The peace rose is in a vase filled with "living water" that only  comes from the Lord  (John 4:10).  The eyeglasses are a reminder to read and study God's Holy Word the Bible; and the red rose symbolizes Jesus' shed blood at Calvary.

John 4:10 tells us: "Jesus answered and said unto her, If thou knewest the gift of God, and Who it is that saith to thee, Give me to drink, thou wouldest have asked of Him, and He would have given thee living water."

Work In Progress (Still Life ) And A Great Blog

Work In Progress- Egg Cup And Copper Kettle
8" x 8" oil on canvas

This is a beautiful carnival glass egg cup that has a rainbow of colors reflecting on it.  It will be a challenge to depict it accurately.  It has been in my possession for about 3 years and this is my first time to paint it and I look forward to completing this painting.

A great blog I follow by Matthew D. Innis talks about representational art and is wonderful for the experienced artist as well as the very beginner.  A recent post has a demonstration about how Rembrandt might have painted in stages,  and another excellent post is about Daniel Greene's palette and how he pre-mixes value strings before he begins his paintings.  Check it out; interesting material.
