Somewhere - Spring Flowers In Landscape

"Somewhere - Spring Flowers
5" x 7" Oil on panel
$225

I just felt the need for a change of pace so I have been working on two miniature landscapes lately.  This one is finished and is painted on museum quality Raymar canvas panel.  The blue flowers are not that bright in the original painting; close, but not exactly right. I photographed this image outside.   Below is a work in progress I am hopefully going to finish this evening.

Those will be 3 cows laying down in the foreground; unless I decide to put more cows in the distance, this is pretty much how the painting will be when finished.    I need to enrich the color a bit more and work on the foreground trees and so on.

Please check back tomorrow for the finished landscape with the cows.  I appreciate your interest !

Tomato And Mayonnaise Sandwich Half

"Tomato And Mayonnaise Sandwich Half"
8" x 8" Oil on canvas
$375

I put finishing touches on this painting early this morning, but mostly completed it last night.   What a fun painting !   I also worked on the other tomato sandwich painting, but it has a ways to go yet to be finished.
In the above work, some of those black "dots" in the mayonnaise are black pepper specks.  I love to eat tomato sandwiches !  Below are some photos of different stages of this painting.

You can easily see how I change things a bit as I go;  in a way that is more creative than painstakingly drawing a detailed sketch on canvas and then "coloring" it.    With other mediums, like watercolor, one might have to by necessity make a detailed drawing first on paper; these photos of mine just show the way I personally like to work.   Everyone has their own method that works best for them, and that is as it should be.
Please feel free to comment here or send me an email at reynoldsrenditions@gmail.com if interested in purchasing "Tomato And Mayonnaise Sandwich Half" or any other original of mine.  Thank you for your interest and for visiting my blog !

Lemonade, Persimmons, and Chinatown

5" x 7" Oil on panel
In Progress

I reworked this in oil today; it was a painting I completed first in January of this year in acrylics.  I was just not happy with the acrylic version, so worked over it in oils.   Below is the previous acrylic version.

Tomorrow will be decision day: is the oil version finished or does it need more refining, etc.  I also worked on the persimmon painting today.   It does not look like I did much to it (shown below) but I really did.

Work in progress
6" x 6" Oil on canvas

Just for fun and to share with you, today I photographed some persimmons and other produce in the Chinatown section of Honolulu.   I thought you might find it interesting; the prices as well as the local vendors, so please scroll down to view.

I have toyed with the idea of painting some people-filled Chinatown scenes and the produce and local vendors.    I took several other photos there as well and some just might make good paintings.

I have had some appointments the last two days so have not been able to paint as much as usual.  The next few days I will live, eat, and breathe painting continuously so please return often to my blog for more new work.

It Came From Barnes And Noble

"Barnes and Noble Mug"
6" x 8" Oil on panel

I fell in love with this mug from the bookstore Barnes and Noble and bought a set of 4 about 3 years ago.  One has since left this life due to a breakage, and I have never seen this particular mug in that store again.   Anyway, just completed this oil painting in the wee hours this morning.  I have been working on 5 paintings at once, as I have to wait for one to dry before I can proceed with more work on it and therefore I work on another painting while I wait.... and so on.   Below is the corrected and completed painting I posted here this past Sunday.

"Seeing Red"
6" x 8" Oil on panel

Both of the above paintings are available for your collection and will be shipped after 10 days to allow plenty of time for the oil paint to dry before packaging it for shipment.   Contact me at reynoldsrenditions@gmail.com for purchase information.

Below is another WIP I will work on later today.   Those are persimmons and grapes on the plate; I plan to make the grapes more of a dark blue color, but we shall see what happens as I fling the paint around !

Yipes ! Stripes!

"Seeing Red "
6" x 8" Oil on Raymar panel

This is what I have been working on today, Saturday.    I see I need to make some adjustment in the shape of the reflections in the vase on the right side.   I will work on it again tomorrow to correct and finish it.   I love the red striped material and will probably use it often in paintings.   Below is a painting done awhile back in oil.

"Reflections"
12" x 16" Oil on gallery-wrap canvas

Both of the above paintings are available for your collection.   The "Seeing Red" miniature will be available after I tweak it some more tomorrow.  I will post it again after I make the needed adjustments.

Remember the orchid that followed me home last week?  It only had two lovely opened blossoms on it when I posted it then, but it did have 2 buds that opened fully yesterday and here is a new photo of it.  I just had to share it with you; it is so beautiful and I am inspired to paint it very soon.  I took several reference photos of the buds as they opened gradually.   The name of this orchid is Lc.Dinard "Blue Heaven", although it is definitely a pale lavender color instead of blue.

Tomato Sandwich - Progress on WIP's

Here is the reference photo I took some time ago for the painting below.

8" x 8" WIP

Still Using Acrylics here to get more detail before beginning to finish in oils tomorrow.

The above is obviously the reference photo for the painting below.  I decided to leave out the knife.

This 8" x 8" WIP has more definition now than it did yesterday.   I took out the foreground tomato slice today; still using acrylics but will begin in oils for the next stage and the completion of the painting.

I hope you enjoy seeing the stages of how the paintings develop and the changes I make along the way.   I enjoy sharing and hope it helps young (or mature) emerging artists as a teaching tool.   Some artists prefer to sketch everything out in detail before the begin the actual painting; and that is fine, if you prefer to do it that way.   I like the freedom of developing the painting as I go and it gives it more of a fresh feel and approach for me.    One can, of course, call my reference photos my "sketch".
