Landscape Paintings Of New Mexico

Evening - Taos Pueblo
18" x 24" Oil on canvas

This painting is no longer available as it was painted around 1987.   If I had it to do over again, I would not have painted that tree quite so dark and prominent....it looks almost pasted on.    But it was there in my reference photo so in it went.    The woman was not in the photo; I just made her up out of my imagination.

Stream at Taos Pueblo
12" x 16" Oil on canvas

This painting is in my own collection but now I am thinking I will offer it for sale.   It was painted 2 or 3 years   after the above shown "Evening - Taos Pueblo" .   I am thinking about improving the color in the stream; maybe even working on that tomorrow.

Rio Grande - South of Taos
12" x 16" Oil on canvas

I completed this painting in February of this year.  This scene is somewhere near Embudo, New Mexico, and what caught my eye was the old wooden suspension bridge.    My reference photos taken years ago, even, can give me excitement and enthusiasm to begin a new painting.  The reference photo for this painting, taken around 10 years ago, is shown below.

Comparing the reference photo here that I took to the painting, you can see I used my artistic license where the use of color is concerned.   Sorry about the scribbles in the upper right hand corner of this photo; I had written information on the backside of this photo and over time it seeped through to be visible on the image.

I have more reference photos I have taken of my travels in New Mexico.   It is a very special place and even though I appreciate the Hawaiian climate,  I wouldn't mind living in New Mexico in a couple of areas where there is snow in the winter.

Remember, if you have a special photo of your own that you would like to have turned into a painting, I do commissions of your favorite vacation spot, your home, your garden flowers, etc.

Hopefully I will complete a new painting soon.   Please check back!  As I mentioned previously, tomorrow I may work on that Taos Stream  painting shown above.

Leeward Oahu Seascapes - Photos

The above reference photos are some I took on the Leeward coast of Oahu not too long ago.   I hope to paint them before too long.    I have so many references photos that I realize I will never be able to paint from them all.    Speaking of painting, there has been some personal business lately that has interfered with my painting time.   Hopefully I will be back at the easel very soon.    Below are some photos taken at Barbers Point on the Leeward coast of Oahu.

The lighthouse will definitely be painted very soon !   Well, Lord willing that is .    We just never know what tomorrow holds, so it is best to take it one day at a time.  Have goals and plans, yes, but realize time and circumstances may make some things impossible. .... or possible !

Let me know which reference photo is your favorite.   Thank you for visiting and please return soon !

Makapuu Beach , Oahu, Hawaii - Photos

Good surf at Makapuu Beach

Makapuu means "bulging eye" in Hawaiian.  This beach is located on the windward side of the island of Oahu and is also at the eastern most point of that island.    The beach is popular for body surfing, but large waves and riptides can make swimming hazardous.    This photo of mine, and the ones following here, are possible references for future paintings.   Let me know your favorites !

Looking towards Rabbit Island and Black Rock

Another view of Makapuu Beach.   The larger offshore tuff cone island shown here is know as Manana or Rabbit Island, partly because it resembles a large rabbit's head and also a rancher once released rabbits there that inhabited the island for a time.   It is now a protected bird sanctuary and is illegal to land there.
The small volcanic islet to the right of Rabbit Island is known as Black Rock or Kaohikaipu and is also a State Seabird Sanctuary.

Makapuu Beach

This view shows the highway in the background which will take you to Makapuu Point Lighthouse .  Well, it will take you to where you can park your vehicle and hike a 1.75 mile trail to the lighthouse which sits on a 600 foot cliff which overlooks Makapuu Beach.    I had intended to include photos of the lighthouse, but for some reason my computer is not allowing them to upload correctly right now so I will save that for a future post.

Beautiful plumeria at Makapuu Beach Park

I will be posting new paintings soon.   Thank you so much for visiting and please return again soon !

Think Pink - Plumeria

12" x 12" Acrylic on canvas

This is the completed painting of pink plumeria blossoms that was previously posted here as a work in progress.    If you view the earlier post  on this site showing various stages of the painting, you can tell I changed the arrangement even more in this finished painting.   On my blog at my main website I also show some of my own reference photos of plumeria blooms.    To view them, please go here

Thank you for visiting and please return again soon.   I am currently working on other paintings that I will post here soon.

Full Moon At Sunset - Hawaii

6" x 6" Acrylic on canvas
$300

I was just in the mood to paint a full moon, but I wanted it to be different from the typical dark blue sky at the midnight hour.     My original intention was to have the sky more soft and subtle with delicate colors,  but once I began painting things just happened on their own and before I knew it the colors had intensified and cloud formations I had not intended to paint at the beginning suddenly appeared.   I decided I was satisfied with the outcome and signed it , although it painted itself !

Three Koi And White Waterlilies

6" x 6" Acrylic on canvas
$300

I put the finishing touches on this painting a few minutes ago.    For some reason this painting took longer than the previous Koi painting I posted here; mostly because I was striving for perfection in the large white waterlily.  I simply wanted the color to be beautiful and varied; there is always a lot of various colors in the color white.   This photo does not render all the shades of lavender, pink, blue, and yellow in the waterlily that are in the original painting .

This miniature and the previous one posted "Seven Koi Among Seven Waterlilies" would be excellent companions to purchase and hang side by side in your home or office as they are the same size and have similar colors.

Thank you for stopping by to visit and please return again soon !

Seven Koi Among Seven Waterlilies

6" x 6" Acrylic on canvas
$300

This is a brand new miniature that was a so enjoyable for me to paint !  Well, I always enjoy painting no matter what !   But this was a subject that I had not painted in several years and it felt so natural and comfortable to be painting Koi and waterlilies once again.    It was such a wonderful experience for me that I have started another similar miniature but with a different arrangement and only one waterlily.     Please visit here again soon to see this new work.

Remember, I enjoy all your comments and any questions you may have.   As always, shipping is free if you live in the USA.
