This painting is based on a photo of mine of a lake in Michigan; however, I changed it considerably.  I added a rowboat and instead of a sunny, blue sky I made it a sunrise, as well as other changes.   I spend about as much time on this size miniature painting as I do on a 9" x 12" or a 12" x 16".

This scene is near downtown Honolulu in a small park.  I hope to create more paintings from my reference photos of this area.   That is pale pink ginger flowers in the foreground and they were actually there in reality; I did not add them from my imagination.

I guess the less said the better; not sure what to make of this painting I just finished today.   I might "tweak" the rainbow some more after it dries.   It definitely is more impressionistic than my usual work, perhaps because I completely made this scene up in my imagination.  It started out as a seascape with the same sky and rainbow but I just felt the urge to turn it into a landscape.   Let me know your thoughts about this  painting.
