Lanikai Beach - Mokulua Islands (work in progress)

"Lanikai Beach And Mokulua Islands"
Work In Progress
12" x 24" oil on canvas

Lanikai Beach on Oahu in Hawaii is a gorgeous beach near Kailua Beach Park....they rather just blend into each other.  This painting is off to a good start and hopefully will continue to flow well.   I will add more figures by the outrigger canoes and tone down that orange canoe some.   There is much detail that needs to be added.   I had a blast with the sky !

Tropical Beauty- Singapore Plumeria (Reworked)

"Tropical Beauty - Singapore Plumeria"
9" x 12" oil on gallery wrap canvas

White plumeria blossoms, or frangipani, are especially elegant although the various pink and yellow varieties are quite lovely as well.   I love them all!  Everywhere you look there are plumeria trees throughout the Hawaiian islands.   Their blossoms are quite popular for making leis.

I reworked this painting today and am much happier with it now. Basically, I added more violet and blue to the flowers and increased the contrast.  The earlier version may be seen by going here

Tropical Shores

"Tropical Shores"
5" x 7" oil on canvas on panel

This seascape is totally from my imagination but is very typical of many tropical beaches.   I especially enjoyed painting the colorful cloud; clouds are special to me and to capture them on canvas is sometimes a challenge.

Hawaiian Red Jungle Fowl (Photos)

The red jungle fowl in the Hawaiian Islands are to be seen almost everywhere.   Some are more tame than others, but most true red jungle fowl are to be found wild and in secluded rain forests.  The  bottom photo shown above gives a good close-up look at the colorful feathers.

This shot is so typical of Hawaii; the red jungle fowl and the slipper behind him.   I intend to paint another rooster very soon and this photo may be the one I use for reference.   It was taken at a beach on the island of Kauai .    More information on these beautiful birds may be found at my photography blog by going here

Please return soon for more new paintings.  Thank you for visiting !

Haleiwa Paradise (Hawaiian Seascape)

"Haleiwa Paradise"
12" x 16" oil on canvas
$1575

These white outrigger canoes are always here on the beach at Haleiwa on the North Shore of Oahu.  The surf is usually more calm here and it is a wonderful beach park for families.  Not too far from this area is the beach where segments of the TV show "Lost" were filmed.

Flowering Trees In Hawaii (Photos)

Royal Poinciana Blossoms

Royal Poinciana Tree In Makiki park on Oahu

The Royal Poinciana trees are so beautiful and they are planted as decorative landscaping trees just about everywhere you look.  I hope to sometime paint the tree in a landscape or seascape, as well as paint a close-up of the gorgeous blossoms.   Below are photos of the the yellow version of Poinciana.

Sometimes I think there are more flowering trees in these islands than smaller plants like Hibiscus.  There is always something in bloom here and that makes me a happy camper.   Below is a close-up of the Rainbow shower tree flowers.

Rainbow Shower Tree

These are beautiful trees and they bloom profusely.   I must make time to paint these flowers as well.

These flowering trees were found in the quaint artsy town of Haleiwa on the North Shore of Oahu. I hope you enjoyed these photographs and there are other trees like the plumeria that I will talk about another time.

I must go on another photo shoot soon.  I have been home painting constantly except today and tomorrow there are other activities that will interfere with my painting time.  I intend to paint tonight, however, and hopefully tomorrow night as well.    Wish I could train my cat to do housework and other chores    ;-)

Sunflower In Ball Jar

"Sunflower In Ball Jar"
9" x 12" oil on gallery wrap canvas
$675

This sunflower painting was a joy to work on.   I've had the blue Ball canning jar for a long time, but this was my first time to paint it.   The sunflower I actually found already cut and abandoned when I checked my Post Office Box one day.   I knew right away I would paint it and use the Ball jar as a vase.

Below are photos of this painting's development.
