Almost Sunset - Kekaha Beach

6" x 6" Acrylic on panel
$300

This painting of the southwestern shore or leeward side of Kauai is pretty true to the reference photo I took there about four years ago.   It really was near sunset time and the beach sand had a nice orange glow instead of a daytime bleached white look.   This area is more scenic than swimmable as the surf and currents are dangerous and unpredictable with sharp coral present as well.   There are experienced surfers that brave the waters, but for the average person it is best not to venture into the ocean there unless the water looks calm.    This area is the longest  uninterrupted beach on Kauai, about a 15 mile stretch.    There are some nice videos on YouTube of this area; at the time I visited there I did not have a camera with video capabilities.

This painting is cause for celebration !   It is my first painting to attempt since I broke my right elbow on June 3.   It felt wonderful to be painting again and everyone can look forward to my making more frequent posts to this site from now on .    So please stop by again soon and see what is new on the easel.

Hanauma Bay Resident

12"x16" Acrylic on gallery wrap canvas

This painting was a joy to paint !  I love to paint roosters as they are so colorful and pretty--  oops, handsome!  Wild jungle fowl are abundant on all the Hawaiian Islands.    For the most part they are skittish of people,  but this guy and some hens were not so shy and one of the hens even laid an egg right near me as I photographed them at Hanauma Bay,  a popular snorkeling beach on the island of Oahu .    Besides the beach there, there is a park and lots of surrounding brush, etc, where I suppose the jungle fowl called home,  thus the title of the painting.     Below is a photo I took overlooking Hanuama Bay.

Hanauma Bay - Oahu, Hawaii

You can easily see the coral in the ocean shown in this photograph.   Lots of colorful fish and turtles for the snorkeler to enjoy here.    The water is not very deep at all for quite a ways from the beach itself.    This bay is more on the Southeast side of Oahu, near the suburb called Hawaii Kai.

Please feel free to contact me if interested in the painting above or any other artwork you may like to purchase on this blog.   I welcome your comments and questions !

Zebras, Rhino, and Water Hyacinth

Reference photograph

Water Hyacinth reference photograph

What do these two photos have in common?  Nothing at first glance!   But they were both taken at the Honolulu zoo and both images were recently posted here for interested collectors to purchase as prints and notecards at Fine Art America.  At this site you can chose the size and format you desire, whether a "flat" print (framed or unframed) or on gallery wrap canvas.   Please visit my site there at the above link provided for a selection of my paintings as well as my photographs to choose from to add to your art collection.

Not only do I miss painting, I also miss photographing various things of interest here in Hawaii. I am so looking forward to being able to create and paint once again, hopefully in August.   Please continue to visit here with me in the meantime as I will continue to post photos and any art related news and events of interest.

Chickadees and Titmouse Art Prints

Chickadees With Crepe Myrtle

Titmouse Amongst The Roses

I have a limited inventory of these photographic art prints available for sale for $10 each.  The image of each print is approximately  5"x7" and may be matted and framed under glass to fit an 8"x10" frame or larger.  They will be shipped free but unmatted and unframed within the USA.  Outside the USA I believe $8.00 will be sufficient to cover shipping and handling.

The original 8"x10" oil paintings have been sold.  I painted these delightful birds when I lived on the USA mainland and observed them at my several bird feeders outside my studio window.  I miss these sweet little fellows as they do not live in the Hawaiian islands.

Bea Endert of California was the winner of this painting in the June 1 drawing !   She has received the painting and is very happy! That makes me happy too!   I first posted information about this painting and the drawing on the May 12 post on this blog if you would like to scroll down for more information.
I really miss painting at my easel, but I have been doing other art related things and reading some important books I have had but never got around to reading because I was always painting constantly!

Will post some miniature prints of my paintings that are for sale in the next day or two so please check back with me.   Mahalo!
