Yipes ! Stripes!

"Seeing Red "
6" x 8" Oil on Raymar panel

This is what I have been working on today, Saturday.    I see I need to make some adjustment in the shape of the reflections in the vase on the right side.   I will work on it again tomorrow to correct and finish it.   I love the red striped material and will probably use it often in paintings.   Below is a painting done awhile back in oil.

"Reflections"
12" x 16" Oil on gallery-wrap canvas

Both of the above paintings are available for your collection.   The "Seeing Red" miniature will be available after I tweak it some more tomorrow.  I will post it again after I make the needed adjustments.

Remember the orchid that followed me home last week?  It only had two lovely opened blossoms on it when I posted it then, but it did have 2 buds that opened fully yesterday and here is a new photo of it.  I just had to share it with you; it is so beautiful and I am inspired to paint it very soon.  I took several reference photos of the buds as they opened gradually.   The name of this orchid is Lc.Dinard "Blue Heaven", although it is definitely a pale lavender color instead of blue.

Kiwi Treat - Again !

"Kiwi Treat "
5" x 7" Oil on panel
$125

I reworked this painting today in oils; the previous version was in acrylics and may be viewed by going here
To me the painting is much improved now.   It has been such a pleasure going back to using my oil paints again.

I worked some more on my tomato sandwich paintings today and began another new work of persimmons.  It is Fall,
and Persimmons are in all the markets right now here in Hawaii.   Please return here at my blog soon for more new paintings !

Tomato Sandwich - Progress on WIP's

Here is the reference photo I took some time ago for the painting below.

8" x 8" WIP

Still Using Acrylics here to get more detail before beginning to finish in oils tomorrow.

The above is obviously the reference photo for the painting below.  I decided to leave out the knife.

This 8" x 8" WIP has more definition now than it did yesterday.   I took out the foreground tomato slice today; still using acrylics but will begin in oils for the next stage and the completion of the painting.

I hope you enjoy seeing the stages of how the paintings develop and the changes I make along the way.   I enjoy sharing and hope it helps young (or mature) emerging artists as a teaching tool.   Some artists prefer to sketch everything out in detail before the begin the actual painting; and that is fine, if you prefer to do it that way.   I like the freedom of developing the painting as I go and it gives it more of a fresh feel and approach for me.    One can, of course, call my reference photos my "sketch".

Tomato Sandwich Anyone ?

Work in Progress 8" x 8"
Tomato Sandwich half
The 2 white blobs behind the sandwich will be salt and pepper shakers

Work In Progress 8" x 8"
The Tomato sandwich in the making
I love tomato sandwiches !  They are also quick and easy to make when you are in hurry.   I very seldom eat bacon now, for health reasons, but that is yummy with the tomatoes as well as lettuce  .....BLT sandwich !   Nowadays, I just eat the tomatoes alone on the sandwich, along with mayonnaise and salt and pepper.

I quickly and very roughly laid in color yesterday in acrylics, but will finish the above 2 paintings in oil with lots of detail.   I also began two other still life paintings as well yesterday which will also be finished in oil paints.  I worked some more on my  4" x 4" water hyacinth yesterday, but I am having trouble with the lavender color .... getting it just right in acrylics is not as easy as with oil paints.   Since it is part of an acrylic set of 4 paintings the same size, I am reluctant to finish the water hyacinth in oils.  Here is a photo of it....remember it is still a work in progress and is rather in a "rough" stage right now.

By the way, you may purchase a print of a photo I took of a water hyacinth at the Fine Art America link on this page , above and to the right .    Or  click here instead.      Thank you for viewing my art !

Look What Followed Me Home Today !

Cattleya Orchid Dinard "Blue Heaven"
Reference photo

Yep !  Was out and about today and this beauty somehow followed me home !   It is really a pale lavender color and this one will definitely be painted with oils on a good size canvas.   Well,  12" x16" or 16" x 20" maybe.   I took a few quick photos of it earlier today and will take more photos tomorrow perhaps with some background print material and some still life objects. I did not attempt that today because I painted for awhile.  Below are some other lavender orchids that I photographed at various places on Oahu.   Enjoy!

Truly hope I find time to paint all of the above reference photos.   Let me know if you have any flower photos of your own that you would like me to capture in oils on canvas; send me an email for information.

Today I worked on the 4"x4" water hyacinth and started 2 new miniature still life paintings.   Stay tuned!

"Did You Say Lavender?" (Waterlily)

"Did  You Say Lavender?"
acrylic on canvas
4" x 4"
Here is the lavender waterlily I promised to post by today.  I worked on it some more today and it is now after 4 pm in Hawaii and I wanted to publish this painting here before I work on other canvases in a few minutes.   I had some trouble getting the color correct and I do believe I am going to switched back to using oils very soon.
First I want to finish another 4" x 4" acrylic water hyacinth to complete this little set of 4 acrylic miniatures. Below are some of my reference photos I took at various places around Oahu.

I especially like the top reference photo as promising for a new painting.  Let me know your favorite !
