Hello Halo (Seascape - Full Moon)

"Hello Halo"
6" x 12" Oil on canvas
$500

This painting was finished earlier today (Tuesday) and I am rather pleased with the results; it is my first time to paint a moon with a "halo".  It is on stretched canvas and the sides of the canvas are also  painted so you do not need to frame it; however, I recommend framing all paintings to give them the quality look they deserve.  This scene is not a typical Hawaiian beach... more like Florida or the East Coast beaches.  It was created totally from my imagination except I have taken several photographs of the moon with a halo.

Below is a much improved version of my earlier post of the landscape with a rainbow.   I liked it so much I made it my new "Header" at the top of this blog.

Somewhere Below The Rainbow

"Somewhere Below The Rainbow"
6" x 12" Oil on canvas

I guess the less said the better; not sure what to make of this painting I just finished today.   I might "tweak" the rainbow some more after it dries.   It definitely is more impressionistic than my usual work, perhaps because I completely made this scene up in my imagination.  It started out as a seascape with the same sky and rainbow but I just felt the urge to turn it into a landscape.   Let me know your thoughts about this  painting.

Stroll At Waimea Bay

"Stroll AT Waimea Bay"
12" x 16" Acrylic on canvas
Available

This is a scene painted from photographs taken on a previous trip to Waimea Bay on the North Shore of Oahu.  The water was calm in this painting and the lifeguard boat was placed behind the lifeguard station at that time; they move the boat to a different location now and then.   Below is a photo I took this past Friday similar to this scene in the painting.

The lifeguard boat was in front of the lifeguard station this past Friday and the bottom photo gives you an idea of how high the surf was then.   It was suppose to peak at 18 to 22 feet that day.   The lifeguards had to keep announcing to the public that it was not safe to swim and that there were rip currents.   The waves were just awesome and I must go to some other beaches on the North Shore again real soon.

Yesterday I began two small seascapes so please return again soon .

Surf's Up - Chun's Reef

"Surf's Up - Chun's Reef "
12" x 16" Acrylic on gallery-wrap canvas
Available

This is a painting I completed some time ago, but thought I would post it again because yesterday I took off to go on a photo shoot of the North Shore as the surf was suppose to be 18 to 22 feet high.  I visited 3 different beaches, including Chun's Reef.    Below are some photographs taken yesterday at Chun's Reef.

The surf was just spectacular yesterday!  I really came alive and was full of enthusiastic joy at the wonderful sight.   Below is a shot taken from Chun's Reef looking towards Waimea Bay.

On my photography blog I posted some photos taken at Waimea Bay; you can view them by going here

Now it is back to the easel again for a few days; however, I want to make another trip to the North Shore of Oahu very soon when the surf is up .   In the winter the North Shore has the highest surf on the island, and people come from all over the world to witness it and the championship surf contests held there.

Please return again soon for new paintings.

Rainbow Over The Moon

Yesterday morning at daybreak I was thrilled to capture this photograph of a beautiful rainbow over the moon !  You have probably already guessed that I will just HAVE to paint this soon.....maybe in a seascape.   Just wanted to share this with you this morning .   You may see more of my "moonscapes" by going here

Yesterday other obligations kept me away from the easel, but not so today.   In a few minutes I will begin working on (and hopefully finishing) the two paintings of  gerbera with bees that I posted previously.

Thank you for stopping by and visiting today !

Ain't She Pretty ! (Hawaiian Green Sea Turtle)

"Ain't She Pretty"
24" x 24" Acrylic on gallery-wrap canvas
Available

I have noticed on my statistics to this blog that many people are searching for turtles - on the Web, that is.
Since this blog started out being mainly a showcase for my miniature paintings, I had never posted this larger painting before of the Hawaiian Green Sea Turtle, which is found only in Hawaiian waters and is on the endangered list and carefully monitored.  This one is resting on the beach and sometimes they take naps while sunbathing.   I have taken many reference photos of these marvelous creatures....mostly on the North Shore of Oahu.   Hopefully I will find time to paint another one again soon.

Thank you for visiting today !
