Tomato Sandwich Portrait

"Tomato Sandwich Portrait"
8" x 8" Oil on canvas

This painting was completed a few minutes ago.  I started it this past October but put it aside for awhile to work on other paintings.   To view the work in progress then go here    Below is another photo of this painting as a WIP.

Yesterday I ran errands and also went to Hilton Hawaiian Village in Waikiki and took several photos there of the waterfowl and other things.   Below is a shot from the beach at the Hilton.

This photo would make a good painting.  To see more of the photos I took at the Hilton please go here

Now back to the easel !

Hello Halo (Seascape - Full Moon)

"Hello Halo"
6" x 12" Oil on canvas
$500

This painting was finished earlier today (Tuesday) and I am rather pleased with the results; it is my first time to paint a moon with a "halo".  It is on stretched canvas and the sides of the canvas are also  painted so you do not need to frame it; however, I recommend framing all paintings to give them the quality look they deserve.  This scene is not a typical Hawaiian beach... more like Florida or the East Coast beaches.  It was created totally from my imagination except I have taken several photographs of the moon with a halo.

Below is a much improved version of my earlier post of the landscape with a rainbow.   I liked it so much I made it my new "Header" at the top of this blog.

Somewhere Spring Flowers - reworked

"Somewhere Spring Flowers"
5" x 7" Oil on canvas on panel
Available

I stayed busy today painting to my heart's content.  I wanted to add more bluebonnets to this painting I first posted here on October 31.   The title of this painting says "Somewhere" but it is somewhere in Texas along the highway between towns; so exactly where this scene was I am not sure.    I use to live in Texas and every Spring I took great pleasure in photographing the wildflowers there.  To see the previous post of this painting go here

I also worked on my flamingo painting today but I am having trouble with the flamingo's body.   I think I need to make the flamingo a bit larger.   Actually, it was larger but the proportions weren't exactly right so in trying to correct it I made it smaller.....too small.  Below is where it stands now.

It is rather embarrassing to show this obvious mistake, but actually seeing it photographed here helped me see my error more clearly.   Sometimes when you have your face right in the painting while working, you lose sight of "the big picture".    Also, the pink waterlilies would be better if they were white maybe.   Painting is really a problem solving process !

Let There Be Light

"Let There Be Light"
9" x 12" Oil on canvas
$625

This is the finished painting of a work in progress I posted here recently.   I changed the foreground quite a bit and feel it is much improved.    I photographed it indoors a few minutes ago as it was not yet daylight here in Hawaii; nevertheless, the colors are pretty true to the original painting.  I will photograph it again outdoors when the sun is up in an hour or so.   If you are interested in purchasing this seascape, I will be happy to email you the photo of it taken outside.

Somewhere - Spring Flowers In Landscape

"Somewhere - Spring Flowers
5" x 7" Oil on panel
$225

I just felt the need for a change of pace so I have been working on two miniature landscapes lately.  This one is finished and is painted on museum quality Raymar canvas panel.  The blue flowers are not that bright in the original painting; close, but not exactly right. I photographed this image outside.   Below is a work in progress I am hopefully going to finish this evening.

Those will be 3 cows laying down in the foreground; unless I decide to put more cows in the distance, this is pretty much how the painting will be when finished.    I need to enrich the color a bit more and work on the foreground trees and so on.

Please check back tomorrow for the finished landscape with the cows.  I appreciate your interest !

Lemonade, Persimmons, and Chinatown

5" x 7" Oil on panel
In Progress

I reworked this in oil today; it was a painting I completed first in January of this year in acrylics.  I was just not happy with the acrylic version, so worked over it in oils.   Below is the previous acrylic version.

Tomorrow will be decision day: is the oil version finished or does it need more refining, etc.  I also worked on the persimmon painting today.   It does not look like I did much to it (shown below) but I really did.

Just for fun and to share with you, today I photographed some persimmons and other produce in the Chinatown section of Honolulu.   I thought you might find it interesting; the prices as well as the local vendors, so please scroll down to view.

I have toyed with the idea of painting some people-filled Chinatown scenes and the produce and local vendors.    I took several other photos there as well and some just might make good paintings.

I have had some appointments the last two days so have not been able to paint as much as usual.  The next few days I will live, eat, and breathe painting continuously so please return often to my blog for more new work.
