"Myrtle Edwards Park - Seattle"

5" x 5" Acrylic on gessobord
$185

Reference photo for the above painting

As you can see, I changed things a bit in the painting rather than going totally by the reference photo.    I took this photo 10 years ago during a short stay in Seattle.   In the future I hope to do a larger painting of this scene and I may paint the water a pinker hue then.   This particular park has many flowers, particularly roses.   It is right near downtown and is popular for joggers as well. Near there is a park with many outdoor sculptures.   Seattle has some beautiful surrounding scenery and mountains, but I prefer Hawaii.

Study - South American Ringed Teal

                                                               6" x 8" Acrylic
                                                                     $350

My very first time to paint this particular duck.   It is found, for the most part, in the Amazon Basin of South America.    No, I did not go to South America to take the reference photos, but instead found this fella and several of his friends on the fantastically landscaped grounds of the Hilton Hawaiian Village in Waikiki.   I was just thrilled to discover several types of waterfowl and parrots at this excellent hotel/resort.   There will be more paintings from there in the near future.

"Pink Lily Study 1"

                                                          5"x7" Acrylic on panel
                                                                 $175

Enjoyed working on this lily and because it is a study and not  very detailed , the price is less than the previous post of NOLA pink waterlilies.    There are subtle touches of yellow in the blossom that do not show up that well in the photo.   This was a joy to paint!

"Miniature Pink Rose Bouquet #1"

5"x7" Acrylic on panel
$195

What fun this was to paint!  I had a reference photo I had taken, but used my imagination for the most part on everything but the roses.   If interested in this painting, I ship free in the USA when the painting is unframed.    I am including a photo of this painting in a frame so you can see what a difference a frame makes.

Framed as shown $250

There is extra time and more cost involved  for shipping and handling if the painting is framed like this.  Contact me at 808.536.0650 or by email   reynoldsrenditions@gmail.com  for a shipping price quote on either UPS or FedEx.

Please excuse the imperfect alignment of the text in this posting; for some reason it is not working properly tonight.   Can't be me, right?

"Cleaving to Clivia"

                                                                    8"x16" Oil on panel
                                                                         Private Collection

This painting was an experiment in color and is a bit more decorative in flavor than most of my work.   These clivia flowers were found at  Waimea Bay botanical gardens on Oahu, and I added the lizard just for fun.  Don't know why, but I get a kick out of lizards and photograph them frequently.   Hope you enjoy your visit to my blog today!

"The Bold and Beautiful"

8"x10" Oil on panel
$500

I loved the bold stripes of this material, but at first was not sure how they might work with the delicate gardenia blossoms.   I was rather pleased with the finished result and will use this materail again.

Lately I have been doing more photography than actual painting, but that has got to stop!   I am currently working on 3 miniature paintings, but am anxious to begin a larger major piece.   Please return to this blog  often as I will definitely be painting more in the future than I have been lately.  Thank you for stopping by!

For more information or to purchase this painting, please contact me at  reynoldsrenditions@gmail.com      or feel free to phone me at  808.536.0650.         I will be glad to help you in any way I can.

"Red Tulips And Calico"

6"x8" Oil on Raymar panel
$250

This little gem was a bit time consuming with the extra detail in the calico cloth.   Just the same,  I will use this calico fabric in future paintings as I enjoy a challenge sometimes.  I have several more reference photos of still life set ups I photographed using this cloth.   This set up just appealed to me to try to paint first.

If you have any special requests or would like to purchase this painting call me at 808.536.0650
or please email with inquiries at  reynoldsrenditions@gmail.com

"Simple Elegance"

6"x8" oil on linen Raymar panel
            $250

I seem to be concentrating on flowers lately and loving every moment of painting them.  Lilies are quite elegant and I shall paint more lilies in the near future.

"Special Vase"

6"x8" Oil on Linen Raymar Panel
$300   Sold

Painting the various colors reflected in this vase was a challenge, especially since it is a miniature painting.   I might use this as a study to paint a larger painting in the future in an effort to more fully capture the colors in the vase.

Thank you for viewing my work and please feel free to comment here or contact me 808.536.0650   or  reynoldsrenditions@gmail.com

"Makiki Heights Home"

8"x10" Oil on canvas
$500

This is a recent painting that I "finished" a month or so ago, but this week decided to work on it some more and I think it is greatly improved.   Sometimes it is a good idea to do that -- go back with a fresh eye.

Another Still Life Reference Photograph

Thought you might like to see two of my recent still life set ups I photographed in hopes of painting them soon.  I photograph the flowers immediately after purchasing them before they have a chance to fade, like they would  if I attempted to paint them from life--fading before I finished the painting.  By taking photos of them while they are fresh, they are always at their best while I paint from the reference picture.   Let me know which photo you like the best or any other comment you may have.

Thank you for visiting  and please return often!

"We're All In The Same Boat"

6"x8" Oil on Raymar Panel
$200

More grapes!  I had intended to put this glass gravy boat in a painting long before now.  The title is a little misleading, because three wayward grapes went their own way and jumped out of the boat!  Kind of like people and true life!

Thank you for stopping by and visiting!

"Hanging Out"

5"x7" Oil on Raymar panel
$150

This was such fun to paint!  I had not painted grapes in such a long time.   Hope you enjoy!

"Near Monterey"

8"x10" Acrylic on canvas
$500

This is a scene near Monterey, California, a place I enjoy visiting.  I used my imagination and added the girl and the seagulls.  Otherwise, the painting is pretty true to the actual area.

"Must Be 30-footer" - repainted

4"x6" Oil
$135

This painting was a previous post in acrylic, but I was not happy with the painting over time and decided to go over the entire painting with oils; I like the result much better now.    This is a winter scene on the North Shore of Oahu when the waves do reach 30 feet or more at times during that time of the year.  There were actually 4 people out on the rocks taking in the power and beauty of the surf when I took reference photographs of this scene.  Somehow two people seemed the perfect accent for this painting and to show the height of the wave in its proper scale or perspective.

"Pug Mug"

6"x8" Acrylic on panel

This is quite the character!  My first time to paint a pug, and there will be more to follow.  Please contact the artist for sizes and prices if interested in a portrait of your pet.

Appreciate your interest!

"Rhapsody"

5"x7" Oil on canvas
Sold

This painting was photographed today while still wet, right after I finished painting it.  It is on stretched canvas and the sides of the canvas have also been painted, so it can be hung unframed if so desired.  There are subtle touches of pink in the waves and water that the camera did not pick up fully.  Overall, I am satisfied with this painting.  I worked on two other miniature paintings today, as well, and both of them have been posted before as acrylics but today I reworked them in oils and I am much happier with the way they look now.   May post them again soon so you can compare the old version vs. the new oil version.   I much prefer working in oils and the way they handle and blend.

"Got the Blues"

5"x7" oil on canvas
$150.00

This a very recent painting I had great fun painting.   It is painted on stretched canvas whose sides are also painted, so it could be hung unframed.   However, I recommend a frame to give it more of an eloquent look.   It is just a matter of personal preference. Hope you enjoy and come visit again soon.

"At Rest"

9"x12" Acrylic on canvas
$525

This scene with rainbow bridge in the background is in Haleiwa Town on the North Shore of Oahu.
Haleiwa is a very quaint, small "artsy " town with several art galleries to its credit.  There is even a
Wyland gallery there.  Haleiwa is also a popular hangout for surfers.

Thank you for visiting and please come back often.

"Three On The Beach"

8"x10" Acrylic on canvas
$425

This is an entirely "made-up" scene.  However, I had a reference photo I had taken of the dog and I included him in this painting just for fun.

Thank you for viewing my paintings.

"We Five" - Pink Waterlilies

8"x16" Acrylic on Canvas
$700

This painting completes the set of pink waterlily paintings.  There will be a discount given if someone buys all three of the posted pink waterlily paintings at one time- together.    I intend to paint more pink waterlilies soon, probably in oil.   I like this size canvas; it would be good for seascapes especially.

Thank you for viewing my paintings.

"Almost Touching" - Pink Waterlilies

8"x6" Acrylic on Raymar panel
$275

The reference photos for this painting were also taken at the pavilion at Ala Moana Beach Park in Honolulu.   This painting would be a nice companion to yesterday's post of "We Two" which was of the same size panel and same color and type of waterlilies.  Hope you enjoy!

If you are interested in purchasing this painting,  please contact me at   reynoldsrenditions@gmail.com

"We Two"

8"x6" Acrylic on Raymar panel
$275

More waterlilies!  Most of my waterlily reference photos are taken at a courtyard in a pavilion at Ala Moana Beach Park in Honolulu.   It is a wonderful family beach; does not have the extreme high surf in the winter as the North Shore beaches experience.   Thank you for stopping by and visiting my blog!

"Mother's Help"

8"x10" Acrylic on canvas
$500

This painting borders on impressionism; a little departure from my other seascapes.  I took several reference photos of this mother and son and hope to paint them again soon.  Please feel free  to send me your comments.  I would love to hear from you.

"Power at Chun's Reef"

4"x6" Acrylic on Raymar Panel
$135

This scene is really a little more towards Waimea Bay, but not too far a walk from Chun's Reef on the North Shore of Oahu.   Had a grand time experimenting with color in this painting.   I have been called a "colorist" because I sometimes exaggerate color even in my most realistic works.

Hope you enjoy "the view" of a little part of the beauty of paradise here in Hawaii.   My intentions for future posts on this blog is to show more miniature still life paintings, so please stop by and visit often.

Same 3"x3" painting as below to show the size as compared to my hand for a better photo to show scale and just how tiny this miniature is.

"Sunflowers at North Padre Island, Texas"

                                                        16"x20" Oil on Canvas

Great news in the mail today!    I received notice that I had been accepted into the prestigious Oil Painters of America!   I am positively elated!   The above painting was one of the entries I sent them to be judged and juried into this wonderful group of artists.   I will definitely be painting more major oils in the future,  but will not abandon my almost daily miniature paintings.

The painting shown above is currently not for sale.   I may keep it for myself.    However, I do accept commissions; also, check out some of the older posts on this blog .

Thank you for your interest and any questions you may have may be sent to reynoldsrenditions@gmail.com

"Sunrise at Sandy Beach"

                                               8"x10" Acrylic on canvas    $500

Sandy Beach is located on the Southeast part of Oahu, and is quite pleasant with no huge hotels, etc., just beautiful scenery all around.   I never tire of painting seascapes, and I hope my viewers of this blog never tire of them as well.    However, I am considering painting more still life and florals in the near future.    I, as an artist, thrive on a variety of subject matter so you may get a surprise now and then as to what I post.

If time permits, this coming weekend I will have a drawing for a free miniature painting, as promised previously, for one of those who follow this blog and  my Facebook fan page.   The winner of the painting will pay no shipping costs, unless they live outside of the USA.    Hey, the weekend is here!  It is Friday already so either Saturday or Sunday I will have the drawing and post a photo of the free painting along with the first name of the winner, whom I will contact via email.    This will be a fun experience!

"Sweet Song" White-Rumped Shama

                                                12"x12" Acrylic on board

Just completed this painting about 2 hours ago.   This bird is also known as Shama Thrush and is found on Oahu, Kauai, and Maui.  This past February I went to the Ho'omaluhia Botanical Gardens on Oahu with friends and was fortunate enough to take a few pictures of this handsome thrush before he flew away.  I was positively thrilled by the encounter as I had wanted some photos of this bird for a long time .  I already had several reference photos of baby shamas I had taken at another botanical garden on Oahu, so now I really was pleased.   This painting is of a male Shama Thrush; the female is more gray and duller with a shorter tail than the male.   Many people think this is the best songster in the islands.

Ho'omaluhia Botanical Garden is very large (400 acres) and has a 32 acre lake on the premises.   I may post more later about this wonderful place, as I intend to paint more scenes from there in the future.  Wonderful place to spend time in nature, and of course they have lots of waterfowl on their lake.

"Sunrise at Waikiki" 4"x6" Acrylic

This painting is a little more impressionistic than some of my other work.  I took several photographs
that particular morning, but this was my favorite scene.   It is looking towards the famous Diamondhead extinct volcano, which is not visible in this painting, obviously.  There is a nice park near here and also the Honolulu Zoo, which is a great place for me to take reference photos of birds and animals as well as flowers.  I don't visit Waikiki very often, mostly because I prefer more secluded, rustic beaches without all the hotels everywhere.    But I do enjoy my visits to Waikiki, and it is a great place to take a daily walk along the paved walkway beside the beach--not to mention a safe beach to go swimming.   Waikiki is a must see for anyone visiting Honolulu and I hope you enjoy viewing this painting and in my own artistic way I suppose one could say I "took you" there as you view this scene.

This painting is on canvas mounted on museum quality Raymar Art panel.   Many of the miniature paintings I post on this blog are on these panels, but some are on stretched canvas or gesso board.  All quality materials and paint.

This painting is priced at $125, including shipping if within the USA.   Outside of the USA, there will be a small charge for shipping; whatever the Post Office charges for Priority Mail to your particular country.

If you are interested in purchasing this painting, or have any questions about my work or commissions,  please contact me at reynoldsrenditions@gmail.com

"Rainbow Bridge- Haliewa"

4"x6" Acrylic on board   $125

Haliewa is a charming "artsy" town on the North Shore of Oahu.  I love to visit there and usually have lunch at Cholos Mexican Restaurant  or Haliewa Joe's.   Both have excellent food.   There is even a Wyland gallery in this quaint town, as well as several other art galleries.    The Rainbow Bridge depicted in this painting is so narrow that it does not allow room for 2 way traffic.   Lanes have to wait til it is clear to procede across.  The restaurant Haliewa Joe's is to the immediate right of this scene.

I'm So Cute" 6x8 Acrylic

This was such a happy little Pomeranian .   Again, as in yesterday's post of a Yorkshire Terrier, this is more of a sketch type portrait.   My prices vary depending on size, detail in the subject matter as well as detail in the background, and if a second pet is included in the same painting.    A simple head shot like this for a 6"x8" Acrylic is priced at  $350.   An oil portrait of the same size might run slightly more, depending on how much time is involved in completing the painting.

For more information on pet portraits and any questions or comments, please contact me at reynoldsrenditions@gmail.com     Your interest and comments are much appreciated.   Stop by my blog and visit often.     In June I will have a drawing for a free painting to one of my followers on this blog and on my Facebook fan page.   The winner will only be announced on my blogspot   http://reynoldsrenditions.blogspot.com/

"Late Bloomer" 24 x 24 Acrylic/canvas

This painting is of the night blooming cereus, a vining cactus found in various parts of the world.   It is also the flower of the dragon fruit, or strawberry pear, which I discussed on May 19 on this blog.   There are two places in particular in the Honolulu area where I take reference photos of these flowers every July when they are in bloom.   They are quite large and showy flowers.   This particular flower had hundreds of dew drops glistening on it,  but I only painted a few dew drops to avoid over-working the painting.

If you are interested in purchasing "Late Bloomer" or have any questions,  please email me at reynoldsrenditions@gmail.com

"Tropical Delight" 12" x 16" Oil/canvas

The main subject of this still life is the the dragon fruit, or red pitaya, sometimes called strawberry pear.
It is really quite tasty and nutritious and best eaten chilled.   The one here had white flesh with black seeds, but some have red or magenta flesh.   The fruit grows on a vining cactus, the most common called night blooming cereus which has large beautiful white flowers.    Actually, perhaps next post on this blog I will  show a painting of mine depicting this particular cactus flower.  There are a couple of places here in Honolulu where I go take reference photos of these flowers every July.     They are grown in tropical regions around the world and on the big island of Hawaii.     In Hawaiian they are known as Pa-nani-oka or as panini o kapunahou.

If you would like to purchase this painting, please contact me at reynoldsrenditions@gmail.com

"Just The Two Of Us"

16" x 20" Acrylic

This painting is of Nene,  Hawaii's State Bird. They are also known as the Hawaiian Goose.  They are found only in Hawaii and are on the Federal List of Endangered Species.  Most of the photos I have taken of them have been on the island of Kauai.   To my knowledge, the only ones on Oahu are at the Honolulu Zoo.   They remind you a little of the Canadian Goose, to which they are related.

Patterns" 12 x 16 Acrylic

This is a painting of my cat, Callie. She loves it outside on my lanai (patio) and I have taken several photos of her there. More paintings of her will follow, as she is getting up in years now . She is strictly an indoor cat, so my lanai is a real treat for her.

Zebra Dove at Diamondhead

8" x 10" Acrylic on canvas
$500

These tiny doves are literally taking over the islands. They are everywhere and usually found in groups. But this fellow was alone when I saw him on the cliff at Diamondhead Beach not too far from the lighthouse there. I had been taking photos of the beach and people there and decided to sit down in the shade at the bottom of the cliff to just relax and take in all the beauty of the area and watch the wave formations, when I discovered the dove watching me from behind and a little above my head and I promptly snapped a few photos of him/her.

Pink Glory - Hibiscus

4"x6" Acrylic on Raymar Panel
$125
As many of you know , the Hibiscus is Hawaii's state flower. The one depicted here is a hybrid, not one of the native varieties which I hope to paint in the future. I like to paint a variety of subject matter, but lately have painted mostly florals and still life. Let me know what you would like to see more of on this blog. I welcome all comments.

Lifeguard Boat at Waimea Bay

4" x 6" Acrylic
$125
Waimea Bay is on the North Shore of Oahu across the road from a botanical garden I frequent. So when I go to the beach there to take photos, I find a lot of subject matter to photograph at the gardens as well. There is a very nice waterfall at the gardens I intend to paint in the near future. Very popular area.
Life is good and I feel blessed to be able to paint to my heart's content here in "paradise".
Please feel free to contact me if you would like a special commission of a particular place or pet or flowers. I could work from your photos. I do not paint portraits of people, however.
